Longmont Youth Council, Children and Youth Resources Division


The Longmont Youth
Council was established by the Longmont City Council to encourage greater
youth participation in the City's government, and is charged with actively
advising the City Council with thoughtful recommendations on issues concerning
youth and assisting City Staff in considering youth perspectives in its planning
efforts.
Accomplishments
- Survey:
Members
created and distributed a survey for Longmont teens regarding their desires
for activities in Longmont

- Strategic
Plan: The
City of Longmont Division of Youth Services strategic plan was to developed
with the input from the Youth Council. Members of the Youth Council helped
write the final document
- Teen
Night: Members
hosted an evening of games and information for teens
- Youth
Business Licenses: Members
drafted an ordinance that would allow for more "youth friendly"
City policy around teen businesses
- Youth
Asset Awards: Members
implemented the first two years of Asset Awards for Longmont's youth
- Rhythm
on the River: Members
consulted with City of Longmont Recreation Division to provide input on
teen activities at the annual Rhythm on the River event
- Leadership
Training: Members
have worked with neighborhood leaders to understand the diversity and contributions
youth can make in a neighborhood setting
- Motorized
Scooter Ordinance: Members
researched and made recommendations to City Council on the appropiate use
of motorized scooters in the community
