June Journeys, Children and Youth Resources Division
I am pleased to tell you that this June we will be expanding the June Journeys program, which will take place in the morning Monday - Friday from 8:30am-12pm. While geared to middle-school aged youth, it is unlike the drop-in style of the Zone. Instead it is a focus-based program in which youth will be expected to show up on time and participate the full time until it ends at 12pm. Combined with the Zone program, this would enable your youth to have something to do all day!
There is no cost for this program. However, if your youth wishes to participate in this program, there is a form to fill out in addition to the membership form. Parents are expected to provide a lunch for the youth, and youth may be picked up at 12pm or allowed to stay for the drop in program (the Zone) which goes until 5pm.
This year’s schedule is still pending, but it will look much like last year’s below:
History of Longmont—youth will go on trips to learn the rich history of Longmont.
Outdoor Adventure—this program will take place in the mountains and in Longmont. Activities will include hiking, biking, geocaching, etc.
Dream Team—group will participate in games that challenge them physically and mentally, and which help them learn to work as a team.
Plead the 5th/Photography—this two part program will start with taking powerful documents and making them understandable to youth, followed by learning the concepts of photography.
Moviemaking—youth will use handheld recorders to create movies, and will learn about using computers to polish them and create special effects.
All equipment required for programming is provided. Please call in advance—first come, first serve. For days of biking youth are encouraged to use their own bikes, though single speed bikes are not advised.
Youth who participate in this program must have the proper paperwork filled out prior to the first day. The program will officially start at 8:30am and youth are expected to be on time (if youth needs to be dropped off earlier, we can accept youth as early as 8am. However, please talk to Mitchell Shepard prior).
This program is limited to the first 25 to sign up. If youth have unscheduled absences* more than two times, we will require that paperwork to be filled out again and your spot may be given to someone on a waiting list.
*Unscheduled absence means any absence of which we were not informed in advance.
If you have any questions about this program please contact Mitchell Shepard, Youth Program Coordinator, at 303-774-3770, or e-mail email@example.com.
