Frequently Asked Questions, Senior Services
Q. What is a senior?
A. Senior
Services programs and services are open to anyone 55 years and older. Some
of our sports/exercise activities are for those 50 and older. If you are interested
in computer classes, you are eligible to take the SeniorNet classes when you
are 50+. Resource assistance and counseling services are available to adults of any age when the individual is inquiring about or concerned with an older person.
Q. I'm not a senior but would like to participate.
Can I?
A. Some activities, such as our
Friday Afternoon Concerts, are open to all ages. If there is space on a trip or in
an activity and it is after the cut-off date for that activity, we do welcome
non-seniors to register, paying the non-resident rate. If you are a spouse
or needing to accompany someone who has limitations, you are welcome
to register at any time, paying the non-resident rate. Call Saryna at 303-651-8442
if you are inquiring about a particular trip or class or have questions.
Q. Do I pay the resident or non-resident
fee?
A. A good way to
determine this is - if you receive City of Longmont trash, water or electric
services. Generally, this means you live within the established City limits.
Q. I don't live in Longmont but would like to participate
in things through the Longmont Senior Center. Can I?
A. Yes, we welcome you to participate
in anything that is offered. If there is a fee for an activity you are interested
in, you would pay the non-resident fee.
Q. How do I join the Senior Center?
A. There is no cost to join the
Senior Center. We do not require any membership. The Center is open to anyone 55+.
Q. Are there scholarships available?
A. Yes. The Friends of the Longmont
Senior Center, Inc. have set aside funds to assist older persons in participating
in various activities. An individual may use up to $75 per calendar year towards
a Senior Services activity of his or her choice. Contact Saryna at 303-651-8442
for more information.
Q. I am new to the community. How do I become familiar
with what you have to offer?
A. We have a "Get Acquainted" gathering
every other month. It's a great time to come down and get acquainted with
others new to Longmont or new to the Senior Center. Staff members
are on hand to familiarize you with our building and what's happening for
older adults here in Longmont. Call 303-651-8411 to register for our next get-together.
You are also welcome to drop in any time for a tour and to pick up our GO catalog that comes out quarterly and gives you
information on all our trips, classes, activities and services offered through
the Senior Center.
Q. Do you offer gift certificates?
A. Yes. What a great way to show
someone you're thinking of them. Gift certificates are available in any amount
and can be used for classes, activities or trips of choice. Contact Saryna
at 303-651-8442 for details.
