Yoga, Longmont Recreation Services

Yoga pose used in Longmont Recreation Services' Yoga classesThe City of Longmont Recreation Services offers yoga classes at two sites year-round: the St Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Ave, and Izaak Walton Clubhouse, 18 S. Sunset. Yoga drop-in students are welcome and monthly registration for yoga classes is encouraged. Monthly registered yoga participants have space priority and will be notified of any class location, time, or date changes. The current yoga schedule is available in the Recreation Brochure: view on-line now.

Yoga Class Descriptions

Yoga - Beginner/Adv. Beginner - Fridays 9:15am

Structurally based yoga that involves slow and deep basic poses and movements. Strengthen your body and release muscular tensions, increase clearer thinking and concentration, and foster greater emotional wellness for yourself. Feed your body and sprit. Please register at least 3 days prior to class. Instructor: Diana Shellenberger. For ages 18+.
Izaak Walton Clubhouse - 18 S Sunset St


Alignment Based Yoga, Level 1 & 2- Mondays 4pm

This alignment based yoga class stresses safety in the poses and focuses on balancing strength and flexibility. The approach in this yoga class naturally relieves stress, improves focus, promotes a peaceful state of mind, and provides weight-bearing activity. Bring a thick blanket and a sticky mat. Continuing and beginners are welcome. Instructors: Gwyn Cody. For ages 16+

Izaak Walton Clubhouse – 18 S Sunset

Wellness Yoga - Mondays 5:30pm

Yoga is a vehicle for deepening the experience of unity between body, mind and soul, and serves as a resource for personal growth an healing. Gain balance, flexibility and strength in body and mind - relieve stress - cleanse and expand your lungs - discover inner peace and joy. Continuing and beginners are welcome. Instructor: Heidi Nordlund. For ages 18+

Hatha Yoga - Tuesdays 9am

Yoga is good for what ails you. Regular practice improves the functioning of all the bodily systems, lubricates joints, improves
concentration, aids with depress, releases tension and develops internal happiness and wisdom. Instructor: Maura Youle. For ages 16+

Gentle Yoga - Mon and/or Weds 10:30am

This class is a very easy and gentle class. People with MS, Parkinson’s, and arthritis have all found this class to be helpful. Yoga is a great way to improve total well-being. Techniques will improve breathing, flexibility, strength, balance, and relaxation. Please bring 2 blankets or a yoga mat. Instructor: Maura Youle. For ages 16+.
16 & up: Mon, 10:30-11:45am

Hatha Yoga-Intermediate/Advanced - Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm

For those with previous Hatha Yoga experience. We will endeavor to move beyond merely “doing” Yoga Asanas (postures) to explore the more subtle and joyful aspects of the practice. Instructor: Shar Lee. For ages 16+

Women’s Hatha Yoga - Thursdays 9-11am

For those with previous Hatha Yoga experience. Explore Asanas from the core, utilizing structural alignment, pranayama, and Ayurvedic principles. Instructor: Shar Lee. For ages 16+

Are you new to yoga? Feel at ease through alignment based foundational and flowing postures that unite movement with breath by honing awareness, you will come to a greater understanding of your own well being. Instructor: Katharine Kaufman. For ages 16+

Yoga - Sunday Continuing - Sundays 10-11:30am

This new class is for the continuing student eager to develop the insight, natural balance, and delight that an integrated Yoga practice brings. By beginning each class with breath-orientated floor sequences that release superficial tension, we clear the way for foundational, flow, and balance postures, as well as mediations. For the continuing student. Instructor: Katharine Kaufman. For ages 16+.
