Odor Control Projects
The Wastewater Treatment Plant was once located on the outskirts of the City. As the community grew, businesses and neighborhoods built closer and closer to the plant site. Odor has become of great concern to us and our neighbors.
These modifications have significantly reduced the number of odor complaints.
2007- EQ Tank Cover
After the 2003 expansion, odor control studies suggested that a source of odors that could still leave the plant site originate from the EQ tank. A large dome was constructed to trap the odors.

The EQ Tank is used to equalize flow. Raw sewage is stored in the tank until it can be pumped into the plant for treatment.

2003- Primary Clarifier Covers and Biofilters

|
Covers were installed on the primary clarifiers to capture odors evolving from these basins.
Gases emitted from the clarifiers and the solids handling building are now directed to a Biofilter. The biofilter media consists of a mixture of compost and wood chips. Microorganisms that grow in this media consume hydrogen sulfide and other odorous compounds in the air before it leaves the biofilter. Foul air from the headworks building (were the raw sewage from the sewers enters the plant) is directed to a another Biofilter for treatment. |
