Police Explorer Program
THE LONGMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HOSTING A NEW MEMBER RECRUITING MEETING on JANUARY 19, 2012 from 6PM UNTIL 9PM. This meeting will include a program overview, tour of the police department, as well as information on crime scene investigations and vehicle stops.
The role of a police explorer at the Longmont Police Department is to gain practical experience in policing, engage
in a program of activities, experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given an opportunity to take on leadership roles. In return, the Explorer program offers young men and women, ages 14-21, the chance to experience police career opportunities. The program's emphasis is on student career opportunities, service learning, leadership experience, life skills, and character education.
The police department is interested in students who have a history of giving back to the community, integrity, strong work ethic, good communication skills, as well as compassion and a commitment to the community. Interested students must complete an application; pass a background investigation and drug testing. Students must have a 2.0 GPA.
