Department Information
Our
department provides community-based policing for a community of 86,000 with
137 sworn officers and 65 civilian support personnel. Qualified candidates should meet the minimum requirements as outlined in this section.
New Longmont officers are assigned to the Patrol Services Division which
provides around-the-clock patrols to deter and detect crime, enforces traffic
laws, and conducts investigations of crime and traffic incidents.
Problem-solving skills are used to identify community concerns, to determine
causes of crimes, and to anticipate crime trends. Police personnel work with
community members to analyze crime and other problems. They also participate
in community meetings to create an environment in which community members
are motivated to assist in the implementation of problem-solving strategies.
Officers may be assigned to a uniformed or non-uniformed position in Patrol
Services, Detective Services, Support Services, Administrative Services, Community
Services, or to other organizational components.
