Affolter Park is named after Frederick Affolter (1832-1895), a Swiss immigrant
who settled in the St. Vrain Valley in 1862, and started a dairy farm. His
ten children all graduated from Longmont High School and attended college,
becoming prominent citizens in the area. This neighborhood park was developed
in 1978, next to Sunset Middle School. Affolter Park was named in 1973, along
with four other parks.
The park is 5.5 Acres in size and is east of Sunset Middle School and south of Indian Peaks Elementary School. Restrooms are attached
