Longmont Youth Center Celebrates 30 Years

Music, food, games, performances and speakers to help commemorate anniversary

June 5, 2014 - On June 26, 1984, The Longmont Youth Center opened its doors for the first time. Its mission: engage the city’s youth in pro-social activities and classes to break neighborhood rivalries and to help young people grow into empowered leaders.

Thirty years of success and thousands of changed lives later, this ever-vital division of the city is ready to celebrate.

The Youth Center staff and other city leaders invite the public to celebrate its 30-year anniversary from 5 to 6 pm on Friday, June 13. Festivity highlights include musical performances by teen artists and members of local band Mojomama, games for children and teens, and complementary food tickets for the first 100 in attendance.

Guest speakers from the earliest days of the Youth Center’s founding will recall how and why it came into existence. Current and former youth clients of the Youth Center will give testimony to how programs have changed their lives. City and community leaders are also slated to share their thoughts.

“We’re so excited about this celebration and the chance to reflect back on our many accomplishments these last three decades. Events like this help us to continue to connect to the community and renew our commitment to our youngest community members and their families,” said Youth Center manager Christina Pacheco.

At 6 pm, immediately following the event, the public is also invited to stay for the Longmont Idol singing competition.
