Water Line Flushing Begins April 21
April 17, 2014 - The City of Longmont will begin its annual flushing of the water lines on Monday, April 21. Flushing activities will be coordinated across the city for approximately three weeks. Water crews flush the lines from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. To help residents prepare for flushing in their neighborhood, an approximate schedule and corresponding zone map can be found online at ci.longmont.co.us/pwwu/water/flushing.htm.
Lines are flushed to keep water quality at its highest level, and to ensure that fire hydrants are operational. The City of Longmont water distribution system is a complex network of pipes and storage reservoirs where sediment or deposits may naturally accumulate over time. The flushing program removes sediment and ensures that the distribution system is operating correctly. The benefits realized in water quality and fire protection far outweigh the comparatively small amount of water released during the flushing program.
Residents may notice low water pressure, discolored water or no water for short periods of time when flushing is taking place in their neighborhood. It’s recommended to limit water use, and avoid using hot water when flushing is occurring in your immediate area.
