Chlorine to Return to Normal Levels After Assisting Town of Lyons
October 23, 2013 - As the treated water provider for the Town of Lyons, Longmont has been helping Lyons bring their water system back into operation after the flood. Earlier this week chlorine levels at Longmont’s water treatment plant were increased to allow Lyons to flush and disinfect their system. These actions were required by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to insure the safety of the water in Lyons’ system. The flushing has been completed and the chlorine in Longmont’s water has been returned to normal levels. Since some of the water with higher chlorine also entered Longmont’s distribution system, customers may notice some changes in taste or odor over the next few days. The water is safe to drink and the chlorine levels during the period when Longmont was assisting Lyons were all well below the limits set by State and Federal drinking water regulations.
