LAVA Names Interim Director
JULY 22, 2011 - The Longmont Area Visitors Association (LAVA) has appointed Eugene Waara as the interim Executive Director. Waara will oversee the day-to-day operations for LAVA while the Board of Directors conducts its search for a new Executive Director. He has been a member of the LAVA Board of Directors for over 3 years and owns downtown business Stonebridge Games.
“We are pleased to have Eugene fill in and keep business running as usual,” said Rob Archer, LAVA President. “There are a lot of exciting things happening in the next few months and it is important that we keep these projects, and the support for our visitor and event planners, on track.”
Following the termination of John Giantonio from the position of Executive Director in June, the LAVA Board of Directors is partnering with the City of Longmont to search for a new Director. Chief Human Resources Officer Bobby King met with LAVA board members earlier in the week to discuss the process.
“We are pleased to be able to support LAVA in their search for a new director,” King said. “As a partner organization with an integral role in the community’s economic development, we recognize the need for a stellar director.”
The Longmont Area Visitors Association (LAVA) is a tourism partner with the City of Longmont to support, market, develop and enhance historical, cultural, business meeting and recreational activities in Longmont. These activities draw regional, national and international tourism to Longmont and surrounding areas. LAVA’s goal is to establish and develop Longmont as a desirable tourism destination and enrich the economic well being of the community.
