Colorado Senate President Endorses Longmont's Google Bid
MARCH 11, 2010 - Colorado Senate President (and Longmont resident) Brandon Shaffer has joined Longmont's effort to encourage Google to build it's ultra-high speed fiber network in Longmont. In a letter mailed to Google headquarters Shaffer lists several of Longmont's attributes that Google should consider in their search for their test site community including Longmont's 17-mile fiber ring, one-stop government services, and its highly educated population.
"With the incredible mountain views, high quality of life, being one of Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live and an All America City," he writes, "I believe that Longmont, Colorado, is your best choice to locate and partner with to create the shared vision of providing ultra high-speed broadband to the home."
Google is planning to launch an experiment to bring better and faster Internet access to everyone. They are looking for a community to partner with to test ultra-high speed broadband networks.
The City of Longmont believes it is the ideal location for Google to build its first open access fiber to the home ultra high speed broadband network. The reasons are outlined at the City's Google page located at http://www.ci.longmont.co.us/news/google_fiber/index.htm.
