Celebrate Public Power Week
OCTOBER 1, 2010 -
In Celebration of Public Power Week, October 3 - 9, Longmont Power & Communications, Longmont’s electric service provider, will launch a suite of free online tools to help residents save money on their electric bill and increase home comfort.
These tools include:
- PowerOutlet – an eNewsletter with information on seasonal topics related to efficiency, new and emerging energy saving technologies, and energy saving trends in the Longmont community.
- eCalculators – allows residents to compare heating and cooling systems, track home energy use, monitor their carbon footprint and understand appliances’ energy use.
- An eLibrary -- includes sections on heating, cooling, insulation and weatherization; appliance profiles; lighting; home safety; energy in lawn and outdoor spaces; green living and energy resources.
Residents can register for these tools by going to www.ci.longmont.co.us/lpc and clicking on the PowerOutlet icon.
This new program is just one of a range of measures Longmont Power & Communications has put in place to better serve residents and increase energy efficiency in city buildings. Energy upgrades have been made at Centennial Pool, the Longmont Public Library, the Longmont Recreation Center, the Longmont Safety and Justice Center, Development Services Center and most recently at the Longmont Civic Center where a skylight installation took place last weekend. Longmont’s residents can view Longmont’s “City Dashboard”, computer monitoring station, available in the Civic Center on a daily basis, that tracks energy produced by these efficiency measures. LPC has also given residents access to energy appliance monitors to help them better understand their plug load usage. These can be borrowed from the Longmont Public Library.
