CIRCLES Campaign Offers Education on Ending Poverty

MARCH 4, 2010 - The Longmont community is invited to attend a community meeting to learn about the CIRCLES™ Campaign on March 17th from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Xilinx Retreat Center, 1951 S. Fordham Street in Longmont.

The CIRCLES™ Campaign follows the county-wide Bridges out of Poverty initiative which helps provide information and mental models to begin to understand the multiple causes of poverty and the implication of class.  Bridges helps the community understand and explore the hidden rules of economic class and its implications for professionals, families, youth and children.

"Getting Ahead" classes are then completed by persons who are living in poverty to allow them to begin to chart a different course in their life. CIRCLES™ is the next phase in this initiative.  Come hear about CIRCLES™, a program that combines the best efforts of engaged community members, government and human services to help end the cycle of poverty in Boulder County.  Learn how CIRCLES™ works, how it has succeeded in other communities and how to help launch a CIRCLES™ project right here in our area!

Early results from the current pilot stage show that when families have more support and structure for getting out of poverty, their lives change for the better in many ways.  They often become healthier, more positive, better parents, more able to generate income to meet their needs, and revive a sense of hope about the future.  All of these benefits are passed onto the children.  Volunteers, known as Allies (or mentors), report that they feel privileged to be able to help a family through the challenging process of leaving poverty.

Please consider joining us on March 17, 2010 in learning about the CIRCLES™ campaign and what you might like your role to be. Please RSVP to 303-441-1545 or csrsvp@bouldercounty.org. Dinner will be provided.
