Longmont Museum Presents

Portrait of Longmont Parks Exhibit

MARCH 19, 2009 - From April 4 through May 10, 2009, the Longmont Museum presents Portraits of Longmont Parks, an exhibition of work by Longmont photographer Luc Nadeau. His color and black and white photographs showcase Longmont’s extensive park system, with photographs from all four seasons and all 35 of Longmont’s parks.

Nadeau spent two years exploring Longmont’s parks with his young daughter and documenting the details of each park. “Much of the fun of photography for me is the adventure of finding a shot” Nadeau says. “If one looks only for the spectacular or the fantastic, beauty may be hard to come by. There is, of course, beauty in everything; sometimes you just have to look a little harder.”

The photographs capture the natural beauty of the parks, from a brightly colored leaf at Kaneomoto park to geese on a misty morning at Roger’s Grove. The character of each park appears through the photographs – the mature trees of Longmont’s older parks contrasts with the more varied landscape of the newer parks.

A full-color companion book, Portraits of Longmont Parks: Beauty in the Details, accompanies the exhibition and is available for sale in the Museum Store. Published by the Longmont Museum and the City of Longmont’s Parks, Open Space and Public Facilities division, it contains Nadeau’s photographs and brief histories of every park in Longmont.
