County Line Road Improvement and Expansion Project Nearly Complete
OCTOBER 19, 2009 - The City’s project to improve and expand County Line Road from just south of Colorado State Highway 119 to near the Great Western Railroad tracks is substantially complete and fully operational. These improvements were paid for with funds from the City’s ¾ Cent Street Fund Sales and Use Tax which has been in existence since 1986. This location was identified as one of the city’s priority capital improvement projects during the last ¾ Cent Street Fund Sales and Use Tax election when Longmont voters elected to extend the existing tax for the period from 2007 to 2011.
The project widened County Line Road to include two travel lanes in each direction, on-street bicycle lanes and turn lanes where appropriate. One of the primary objectives was the construction of dual left-turn lanes at all approaches to the State Highway 119/County Line Road intersection.
Project benefits include:
- Reduced congestion along the busy County Line Road corridor.
- Improved safety for the traveling public.
- Dual left-turn lanes which reduce delays, particularly for southbound vehicles turning left on to State Highway 119.
- Enhanced multi-modal opportunities with the addition of on-street bicycle lanes.
- Reduced maintenance costs through the replacement of the deteriorated roadway with smooth, long-lasting pavement.
- Installation of storm water treatment facilities that will improve water quality.
