Longmont to Hold Special Election on June 24

The City of Longmont is conducting a special election regarding the issuance of bonds to help finance storm drainage improvements. All active Longmont voters, regardless of party affiliation, should have received a mail ballot with the Longmont question. If you have not yet received your ballot or if you are an unaffiliated voter and would like to participate in a party primary in addition to voting in the Longmont Special Election, please contact the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder at 303-413-7740.

Public Invited to Longmont Youth Center 30-year Celebration

Join the Longmont Youth Center staff and other City leaders for the center's 30-year anniversary celebration Friday, June 13, 5 pm at 1050 Lashley Street. Festivity highlights include musical performances by teen artists and members of local band Mojomama, games for children and teens, and complementary food tickets for the first 100 in attendance. Guest speakers from the earliest days of the Youth Center’s founding will recall how and why it came into existence. Current and former youth clients of the Youth Center will give testimony to how programs have changed their lives. City and community leaders are also slated to share their thoughts. Downtown Summer Concerts Begin This Week

For five Fridays starting in June, Downtown Longmont and City of Longmont Recreation and Golf Services give you the chance to dance in the street and enjoy great live music from regional artists. The series begins on Friday, June 6, with Cat Jerky and Last Men on Earth. Gates open at 5:30 pm, the music starts at 6 pm, and the headliner takes the stage at 7 pm at 4th Avenue and Main Street. Bring your family and your chairs to sample some great local food and drink from downtown businesses. Admission is free! For more information visit http://www.downtownlongmont.com.

Second Annual Landlord Fair on June 11

The public is invited to the second annual Landlord Fair from 6:30 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 11, at Roosevelt Park, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Find out about resources that can make your job as landlord easier. Meet with attorneys, collection agencies, contractors, housing agencies, locksmiths, remediation companies, property investment advisors, translation services and many more services that serve the rental market. Airport to Host Movie Night


Longmont Municipal Airport will host the first movie night of the season on June 14 at 8 pm. Fly in or drive in for the premiere movie night featuring the 1980 comedy Airplane! The film will be projected toward a big hangar. Reservations required. Please call (303) 774-8081 to reserve your spot. Flight Deck Grill will be providing food & Fly Elite Aviation will have snacks for sale. Please bring your own lawn chair or blanket for comfort.

Fun at Sandstone Ranch!

Plan to attend two fun events this week at Sandstone Ranch, 3001 E. Highway 119. At 10 am on Friday, June 13, enjoy Critter Puppet Theater and story time and make a crafts project. The cost is $2 per parent and child and is payable at the ranch. From 10 am to noon on Saturday, June 14, meet award-winning writer Priscilla Stuckey, author of “Kissed by a Fox and Other Stories of Friendship in Nature,” who will read from and sign her book about a universe where people and place are not separate and where other creatures respond to human need. It’s West Nile mosquito season and Longmont residents can sign up to receive a weekly e-mail about mosquito activity in the city. Get information on how to protect yourself.
