City Facilities Closed New Year's Day

Longmont city government observes New Year’s Day on Wednesday, January 1, as a holiday. The following facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Senior Center, Library, Museum, Youth Center, Development Services Center, Waste Diversion Center, Recreation Center, St. Vrain Memorial Building, Centennial Pool, and Ice Pavilion. The Civic Center will close at 5 pm on New Year's Eve. Wednesday and Thursday trash and recycling will be collected one day late.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Through January 12 there are four satellite locations where you can drop off your Christmas tree to be recycled: Roosevelt Park – parking lot south of 8th Avenue; Garden Acres Park – west side of parking lot off 18th Avenue; Kanemoto Park – parking lot off of S. Pratt Parkway; Clark Centennial Park – east parking lot off of Alpine Street. You also can recycle your tree at the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street, Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm. Please remove all holiday decorations and lights. City Council Open Forum

The January 14 city council meeting, beginning at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, will be an Open Forum for residents to talk to council members about any topic on their minds. This is the only agenda item for this meeting; plan to arrive a little early to put your name on the list of speakers. For more information about city council meetings visit

Volunteer to Serve Your City

Longmont City Council is recruiting for volunteers to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission and the Library Advisory Board. Applicants must be registered voters and residents of Longmont for at least one year prior to serving. To apply, visit and click on “Apply online.” The application deadline is 5 pm on January 8. Business Flood Recovery Grant Deadline Extended

The application deadline for the Business Recovery Grant program has been extended to January 31, 2014. The Business Recovery Grant provides a reimbursement of up to $5,000 for repairs and improvements made as a result of the September 2013 flooding. In order to qualify, businesses must be located in designated flood-impacted areas of Longmont and be in full compliance with all city rules and regulations. Additional requirements may apply.
