Second Friday Dancing in the Streets
Put on your dancing shoes, join your friends and neighbors for music, dancing, drumming and Longmont Council for the Arts' sneak peek presentation of their own event Dancing for the Arts Fall Ball. The event is Friday night August 10 from 6 to 10 pm in downtown Longmont at the 400 block east breezeway. On the 2nd Friday of each month enjoy art openings at various galleries, special promotions and fun activities throughout the Downtown Arts & Entertainment District. Colorado Game Birds at Sandstone Ranch
From noon to 1:30 pm on Saturday, August 11, meet Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife Manager John Koehler at the Sandstone Ranch Visitor Center, 3001 E. Ken Pratt Boulevard, to learn about the many species of upland game birds in this area such as turkeys, pheasants, grouse, and chukars. You’ll learn the history of the introduction of these species to Colorado for hunting, identification, different bird calls, and the hunting season. This program is free.

Firing Range Open House
The Longmont Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range and Training Facility at 10916 Weld County Road 5 is now open to the public on Friday nights and all day Saturday and Sunday. Hunter sight-in times are available on Sundays from August 19 thru November 25. The public is invited to tour the facility at an open house from 10 am to noon on Saturday, August 18. Union Reservoir Swim Beach Hours
The Union Reservoir Swim Beach is now open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm through Labor Day. Special Labor Day hours are 10 am to 6 pm. Open Water Swim will continue through September 22 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 pm and on Saturdays from 8:45 to 10:15 am. The Open Water Swim fee is $8 and includes the gate fee. End of Season Recreation Closures
The end of August marks the beginning of annual week-long facility closures of year-round recreation facilities. The St. Vrain Memorial Building at 700 Longs Peak Avenue will be closed from Monday, August 13, through Saturday, August 19. Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street, will be closed from Saturday, August 18, through Saturday, August 25. The Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Rd, will close from Sunday, August 26, through Sunday, September 2. Centennial Pool will be closed for the Labor Day Weekend, Saturday through Monday, September 1-3, but the Longmont Recreation Center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Labor Day, Monday, September 3.
