Temporary Stop Signs on Martin Street
On Monday, September 19, the City and BNSF Railway will begin construction of medians, gates and signals at the track crossing on Martin Street between 1st and 3rd avenues. Temporary stop signs have been installed to improve safety at this crossing until the new traffic control devices are completed. Household Chemical Drop Day is Saturday
On Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 9 am to 2 pm at 375 Airport Road, Longmont residents can drop off unwanted chemicals. Items Accepted: City of Longmont sanitation customers may bring unwanted cleaners, solvents, pesticides, aerosol cans, paint and other chemical wastes for disposal at no additional charge. Chemists will be on hand to identify and properly dispose of many types of household hazardous chemicals. Not Accepted: Commercial waste of any kind will not be accepted. This event is for chemicals commonly used for residential purposes only. Please bring a copy of your current utility bill for verification. For additional information please call 303-651-8416.

Coffee with EnergySmart
Are you looking for easy ways to save money in your home or business? Find out about the EnergySmart service over coffee at 10 am on Tuesday, September 27, at Ziggi’s, 1139 Francis Street. This service takes the hard work out of energy savings by providing the services of a one-on-one energy advisor who identifies energy savings measures. Your energy advisor also will connect you with all available rebates and financing options to make your upgrades affordable, and will even help you complete the paperwork. Shredding Event Today, September 16
The Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will hold a free shredding event from 9 am to 1 pm on Friday, September 16. This event is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Please bring a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill to show that you pay the waste management fee. Coffee with Council Next Saturday
Longmont City Council is hosting an informal chat over coffee from 9 to 10 am next Saturday, September 24, at Vic’s Too, 600 S. Airport Road. At Coffee with Council, you can talk with two council members on any topic of your choice. Council members Alex Sammoury and Katie Witt are scheduled to attend.
