Join the High-Speed Effort

Google is planning to launch an experiment to bring better and faster Internet access to everyone. They are looking for a community to partner with to test ultra-high speed (over 1 gigabit per second) fiber-to-the-home broadband networks. From now until Friday, March 26, 2010, we're asking you to help nominate the City of Longmont by getting involved. For information visit www.ci.longmont.co.us/news/google_fiber.

Free Shredding on Saturday

The Longmont community is invited to participate in the first shredding event of the year on Saturday, March 6 from 9 am to 2 pm at the Recycling and Tree Limb Diversion Center located at 140 South Martin St. This is In response to the needs of our residents, our dedication to preserving our environment, and to help protect your identity. Shredded material is recyclable, but not accepted in your curbside single-stream recycling cart. These events let Longmont residents conveniently recycle sensitive documents in a manner that maintains efficient operation of the processing center. To participate, simply bring your recent City of Longmont utility bill, showing the Waste Management fee.

Help to End Poverty

Join Scott Miller, CEO of the Move the Mountain Leadership Center and author of Until It’s Gone: Ending Poverty In Our Nation, In Our Lifetime to learn more about CIRCLES™, a program in which engaged community members, government, and human services work together to end the cycle of poverty in Boulder County. Community Invited to Upcoming RTD Meetings

RTD is hosting meetings to share information about station concept plans, track alignment, analyzed impacts and proposed mitigation in the FasTracks Economic Evaluation plan. The public will learn about the proposed rail service, and be able to provide formal comment. The meeting for the Longmont area is Thursday, March 11, 2010, 6 to 8:30 p.m., Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St.
