City Offices Closed for MLK Holiday

Longmont City Government observes Monday as a holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The following facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Development Services Center, Library, Senior Center, Museum, and Tree Limb Diversion Center. Go ice skating, take a swim, or shoot some hoops! Although many City offices are closed today, all recreation facilities are open regular hours. Trash and recycling collection services will be one day later.

Meeting to Discuss Healthy Living and City Planning

The Longmont community is invited to a public open house to discuss updates to the Longmont Area Comprehensive Plan (LACP). The City is identifying opportunities to incorporate community health-related language into the LACP. Be ready to share your opinion on how the concepts of healthy eating and active living can be incorporated into the LACP on Wednesday, January 27, from 6 to 8:30 pm at Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave. Please call Erin Fosdick at 303-651-8336 for more information.

Learn How Much Electricity Your Appliances are Using

Appliance meters are easy to use and help determine how much your appliances and electronic devices are using. Longmont Power & Communications and the Longmont Public Library have teamed up to lend you a meter free. Use your library card to borrow a meter at the library. Landlord Symposium Offers Free Training

The City of Longmont's semiannual Landlord Symposium will be held on January 28, 2010 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street. Any and all landlords and property managers, as well as interested tenants, are welcome to attend. We will have two presentations: Efficient and Effective Recycling for Multi-Family Housing; and Mold and Mold Management: What is a Landlord’s Responsibility? ClimateSmart Loan Workshop for Commercial Customers to be Held in Longmont

Attend a ClimateSmart Commercial Loan workshop and learn how you can secure a low-interest loan for your business to be used for more than 40 energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. The workshop will be held at the City of Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street, from 3:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 22. Applicants Needed for Transit Academy

Applications are being accepted for the Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy. The program will host a maximum of 50 participants over 7 weeks to discuss the complexities of combining transportation and community development to support the regional success of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in the Metro Denver area. Participants will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to make future contributions to transportation and community development, with particular emphasis on development taking place around transit stations both existing and future. The Academy will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. for seven consecutive weeks. Applications are due February 14, 2010.
