City Offices Closed on Christmas Day
Longmont city government offices are closed on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25. The following facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Development Services Center, Library, Senior Center, Museum, all Recreation facilities, and the Tree Limb Diversion Center. Longmont Recreation Services’ facilities will have modified hours the week of Christmas: Centennial Pool will host an additional afternoon open swim from 1 to 3:30 p.m., December 21 through 24. The Longmont Recreation Center, the Longmont Ice Pavilion and the St Vrain Memorial Building will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 24; Centennial Pool will close at 3:30 pm.

City to Host MLK Celebration
The entire community is invited to “Keeping The Dream Alive!” free event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day on Tuesday, January 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St. In conjunction with the City of Longmont’s day of honoring Dr. King, the Governor’s Commission on Community Service is encouraging the public to participate in “A Day of Service” on January 18, 2010, Martin Luther King Day. The commission’s goal is to increase the number of community service projects throughout the state that relate to Dr. King’s teachings. Some ideas from past MLK Days include blood drives, sorting food at a local food bank, and assisting Habitat for Humanity in home construction. More details can be found at www.colorado.gov/gccs.

Find Longmont Public Safety on Facebook
City of Longmont Fire, Police, and Office of Emergency Management have launched a Facebook page, providing quick and effective way to communicate with the Longmont community. This page will include posts ranging from prevention/education to suspect descriptions so that residents can serve as eyes and ears in the community. Longmont Sister Cities Needs Chaperones
The deadline for returning Chaperone applications for Longmont Sister Cities Association (LSCA) are due in the Longmont City Manager’s Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010. Once again LSCA will select 14 students and four chaperones to represent Longmont in our sister cities Chino, Japan, and Ciudad Guzman, Mexico. They will participate in a 10-day exchange, living with local families and learning more about the lives and customs of people who live in Japan and Mexico. Chaperone applicants must live or work within the boundaries of the St. Vrain Valley School District and must be available to begin orientation following student selection.

Holiday Ice Exhibition Video Online
As part of the 2009 Longmont Lights celebration, the City's Ice Pavilion hosted a Holiday Ice Show featuring ice skating instructors and professionals from the Denver area performing on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. A video of the exhibition was produced by Longmont Cable Channel 3 and is airing throughout the holiday season and also can be found on the City of Longmont Web site.
