Business Start-Up Grants Available

The City of Longmont has added a new tool to use as part of its economic vitality efforts to strengthen and diversify Longmont’s economy called the Business Start-Up Grant (BSUG) Program. The purpose of the BSUG is to encourage new sales tax generating storefront businesses in non-residential zoning districts.  The program will provide a reimbursement grant up to $2,000 for legitimate start-up costs to qualified applicants. All criteria must be satisfied prior to applying for reimbursement. The BSUG Program is just one of several economic vitality programs that the City provides with its partner organizations.  Existing businesses can take advantage of other programs such as the Longmont Economic Gardening Initiative (LEGI). Changes Made to City Council Calendar

The Longmont City Council has cancelled their meeting scheduled for December 29, 2009. In addition, the January 5, 2010 meeting is now a Regular Session instead of a Study Session. The meeting on January 12, 2010 is the annual Open Forum where the public is invited to talk to Council Members about any topic. The meeting on January 19 is a Study Session and January 26 is a scheduled as regular council meeting.

Longmont Kicks Off 'Shop Local' Campaign

Adrenalin, Inc., The Brand Expansion Team, has been selected by the City of Longmont, Colorado to lead the city’s marketing and educational campaign to drive retail sales and economic growth. Adrenalin, in partnership with the city has begun the execution of the new “Be Alive in Longmont” campaign, kicking off the holiday shopping season.  Residents, store/shop owners, teachers, coaches, political figures, etc. will be individually highlighted in a series of ads designed to build community pride. Ads will run through the holiday shopping season and continue into and through 2010. Electric Rates to Increase in 2010

City Council has approved electric rate increase of 8.3% beginning January 1, 2010, with residential rates increasing 9.3%. The adjustment includes a 6.2% wholesale power increase from LPC's electric power provider, a 1% increase in the franchise fee LPC pays to the City's general fund and increased environmental program costs. Council also approved a $4 monthly credit for low-income seniors and disabled customers to minimize the impact of the rate increase. Be Prepared for Winter Storms

Winter storms can bring hazardous conditions that pose a serious safety threat. Every household should plan ahead to keep your family and home safe. Trim your trees, assemble emergency supplies and prepare for a power outage. If you have a power outage, please do not call 9-1-1.
