Art on the Move 2010 - 2011
Open to Colorado Artists
Deadline for Submission: February 8, 2010 5:00 pm
Entries must be submitted through www.callforentry.org
The Art in Public Places Commission of the City of Longmont is seeking artwork from Colorado artists for its Art on the Move program. Artwork will be displayed in various City locations from July 2010 to June 2011. All artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado weather conditions, including freezing and thawing, extreme sunlight and high winds. All media will be considered; however, all work submitted for review must adhere to the space criteria as pedestals are of set sizes, and must be low to no maintenance for the duration of the time on display.
Up to five pieces of artwork will be selected for display in 2010-11. At least two will be displayed in St. Stephen's Plaza on a pedestal as shown in the attached diagram. Circular steel plates have been installed on concrete. Each of three is uniform in size. Another pedestal with a steel base measuring 42”will be considered as well.
The Selection Panel will consider one piece for interior siting in a location to be detemined. Interior piece must be free-standing, or must be delivered with pedestal, and must be three dimensional.
Additionally, the selection panel will consider the selection of one piece for installation in the water of a small pond which will be installed prior to July 9 and should be on display for up to 90 days, weather permitting. This will not be accessible by passers-by and can be secured by anchor or affixed to island within pond.
Artists are invited to submit up to three different pieces for AOTM projects. Please submit up to two images (or drawings) for each piece proposed, and use the remaining image allotment to show previous completed work.
Criteria:
The AIPP Commission is seeking work that is of high quality, durable, and will be able to withstand varying weather conditions. Extreme conditions might include intense sunlight and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. “Sunlight” or "exposure" considerations will not be made for individual pieces that might fade. The Commission is seeking to display unique artwork of a diverse range. All artwork will be mounted to a concrete or steel base surface and must be “transportable” after the 11-month period. All media appropriate for outdoor locations will be considered. Artwork must be appropriate for public display, and will not be considered if any offensive or religious connotations may be interpreted. The selection review panel will consider the following criteria in its review of submitted artwork: appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with site, and safety. Artwork to be considered may be work that is completed and available or work to be fabricated before the installation date of July 2010.
Artists will receive a stipend of $750 per piece upon delivery of the piece to Longmont. Additional monies may be available for transportation. The City of Longmont will be responsible (physically and financially) for installation of all artwork.
Timeline:
Deadline to apply: Februrary 8, 2010. Artists will be notified of selection in March 2010. Artwork must be delivered between June 28 and July 13, 2010, and will remain on display until June 20, 2011. A dedication for Art on the Move 2010-11 will be held on July 16, 2010. Artists are not required to be there, but artwork must be installed prior to that date.
