LPC owns and operates a 500 kW Hydroelectric Plant located just west of Lyons, Colorado, which has been in service since 1912. The plant is one of the first public power projects in Colorado, and continues to serve its original purpose.

In 1987, the U. S. Department of Interior entered the Longmont Hydroelectric Plant on the National Register of Historic Places.

The plant contains two 250 kW generators driven by Pelton turbines. Both generators running together could supply 150-175 homes or two buildings the size of a typical retail store. The generators supports about one-half (0.5) percent of the entire City’s electrical needs.

Each month the plant helps offset up to $14,000 in purchased power, saving energy costs for LPC customers.
