2012 Cultural Event Grants
For the eighth year, the City will be awarding Cultural Event Grants in 2012. Longmont organizations and individuals are eligible for a grant to support community celebrations of Longmont’s vibrant cultural heritage. Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King - Three Day Celebration
Beginning Tuesday, January 10 a proclamation ceremony will declare the week of Dr. King’s birthday as “Honoring Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., Week” in recognition of Dr. King’s work on civil rights, human rights and social justice for all people. The proclamation will also honor Glenda S. Robinson for her contributions to the Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., birthday celebration in Longmont.
The ceremony will be held at 7 pm in City Council Chambers, 350 Kimbark Street. Although this ceremony is brief, the public is welcome to attend.
The second event, the Dr. Martin Luther King Marade (march/parade) and program celebration, serves as a celebration to honor Dr. King’s great work for civil rights and social justice for all.
Program highlights include Native American drummers, gospel singers, speakers, and dancers.
Important Note: The Marade will begin at Twin Peaks Academy at 350 S. Sunset Street, Longmont and concludes at Izaak Walton Clubhouse, 18 S Sunset Street.

The final event is hosted by the Silver Creek Leadership Academy at Silver Creek High School with participation by the students of Silver Creek and other area high schools.

The Asian Pacific Association of Longmont (A-PAL) will celebrate Chinese New Year of the Dragon with FREE performances, interactive cultural activities, and food samplings.
The event is sponsored by Longmont Multicultural Action Committee, hosted by Silver Creek Leadership Academy at the High School with active participation of the students.
A-PAL is a volunteer organization dedicated to social and cultural interchanges.
