In the State of Colorado, obtaining a liquor license is a dual process beginning at the local level. A dual process requires review and approval from the Local Licensing Authority and State Liquor Enforcement Division. Businesses desiring a liquor license within the City of Longmont need to apply to the Local Licensing Authority first. Obtaining a liquor license in the City is a privilege not a right. The Local Licensing Authority conducts hearings and makes findings on whether to grant or deny a liquor license. Licenses are granted based upon demonstration that the surrounding neighborhood needs and desires the issuance of the license. Applicants unfamiliar with the lengthy and detailed application process may want to consult an attorney.
