There are approximately 176 volunteers serving on 22 boards. These committees were created either by City Code, City ordinance or Council resolution. The responsibilities, powers, terms of office, membership size, qualifications and meeting schedule varies for each board and commission.
The City Council seeks applications from citizens interested in serving on boards, committees or commissions through a bi-annual recruiting process. Look for advertisements in the Daily Times-Call for these vacancies that are published in October/November and May of each year. To apply for a volunteer position during a vacancy, you must be a registered voter within the city limits of Longmont for one year prior to being appointed. These positions are on a volunteer basis and are non-paying. For information about the duties and responsibilities of the boards and commissions and how to apply for a position on a board or commission, or to receive an application form, contact the City Clerk’s office at (303) 651-8649.
