Transition Area:
We have an open transition area. What this means is that you will not need to have your bike racked before the race begins, but can rack it prior to your start. What this also means, is you will need to be courteous to the racers in progress. Please do this by:
- Rack your bike in an empty spot. Do not move other peoples items as they may be out on the bike portion of the event.
- When you finish the bike course, re-rack your bike in the same spot.
- Athletes ONLY in the transition area.
- Be aware of your surroundings while you may be leisurely walking your bike into the area, a racer may be trying desperately to get around you and onto the course.
- Do not loiter in the transition area. Set your stuff up and then leave the area. Do not loiter in the transition area after your race. Athletes ONLY please - no spectators.
Timing and Chips
There will be 5 split times. Timing chips will be picked-up at Centennial Pool on the day of the race.
Body Marking and Race Number
Body marking will be done at the Packet Pick up tent on race day. Your race number must be worn on the front of your body during the entire run portion of the event.
Triathlon Teams
Triathlon teams may consist of two or three athletes. Awards will be given to the Overall Team and top two finishing teams in two categories.
- Masters - combined ages of 105 or more for three person teams, or combined ages of 70 or more for two person teams.
- Juniors - combined ages less than 105 for three person teams or combined ages less than 70 for two person teams
Teams should use the same registration form. All team members need to sign the waiver, so make sure all persons have signed the waiver before sending it in. The person paying should be the primary person filling out the name, address, phone, etc., information on the registration form. List the names of the swimmer, biker and runner in the spaces provided on the form. The runner on the team wears the race number on the front of your body during the entire run portion of the event. Teams will "tag" each other by passing along the timing chip.

History
A Brief History of the Longmont Triathlon
In 1981, the first Longmont Triathlon started with 56 participants. The event was held as 3 separate events. The run was a 10K that started at 9am, the 25 mile bike race started at noon and the 1000 meter swim began at 3pm - truly an all day event! There were no transition times, but the times for all 3 individual events were added together to determine the winner. Overall winners that year were Patti McNitt and Dennis Wilson, both in the 20-29 age category. The cost for the race, which included a 50/50 t-shirt and refreshments, was $12. The oldest age group offered was 40 and over. This format continued for one more year with the bike changing from 25 miles to 19 in the second year. In subsequent years, the race was combined so all events were consecutive. In addition, the course has seen numerous changes most dictated by road construction and the growth of Longmont on the East side of town. The Longmont Triathlon is becoming a historic event in Longmont and we are looking forward to our 32nd year in 2012!
