What's New?
Union Reservoir Recreational Master Plan Meeting
A public meeting is to be held to present the Draft Master Plan to City Council. Dates are tentative, but currently is expected to go to Council on Tuesday December 3.
A recreational master plan study began in 2007 but was never adopted. Conditions have changed at and around the reservoir including City purchase of lands on the western side of the reservoir. A public meeting was help on June 16 and reviewed the 2007 draft plan, the changed conditions, and a staff revised plan to reflect those changed conditions. A revised master plan was prepared from public meeting comments as well as from a web survey posted in the summer of 2011. Link to Union Reservoir Master Plan web page
Union Reservoir is a 736 acre body
of water providing many outdoor recreational activities. Originally called
Calkins Lake, the reservoir was carved out during the last glacial age and
is one of only a few natural lakes in Colorado. In 1903, the Union Ditch Company
began drilling a tunnel to release water into the St Vrain River. According
to Colorado water law, that made Union a true reservoir. Today, visitors to
Union Reservoir can enjoy fishing, swimming, wakeless boating, camping, windsurfing
and picnicking. The Reservoir is located approximately 7 miles west of I-25.
